B1 Free Archiver is a simple program developed for compressing files and extracting content from archives. It supports several formats, namely B1, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, ZIPX, CAB and JAR. After a quick installation procedure, B1 Free Archiver brings up a modern window with a well-organized layout, where you can use the Explorer-based folder structure to locate the files you want to compress.
Creating a new archive requires a few simple steps. All you have to do is establish the target directory and format (B1 or ZIP), add a password to protect it, select the compression method (ranging from 'Store' to 'Ultra'), as well as split the archive into multiple parts to store it easily. In addition, you can create a separate archive for each folder, test the integrity of an archive or repair broken or corrupted ones, as well as open files in an external viewer or editor. A few configuration options are available in the Settings screen. Therefore, you can switch to a different language for the UI, establish the default open action, make file associations, show hidden files, as well as integrate B1 Free Archiver into the Explorer context menu, to name but a few. The software application requires a moderate quantity of CPU and system memory, has a good response time and quickly finishes a compression or extraction job.
No error dialogs have been shown in our tests and the tool did not hang or crash. Although B1 Free Archiver does not compare with other, more powerful similar products, such as or, it certainly offers users a nice alternative when it comes to compression utilities.
